Rates and booking

Rates and booking at Sydney Airport

This page explains how parking prices work at Sydney Airport and how a booking through this site fits around them. It covers the difference between drive-up rates and pre-booked rates, how overstay charges are applied, and what you need to have ready when you reserve a space.

We are an independent booking and guidance service. The rates you see at the gate are set by the car park operator, and the rate you agree when you pre-book is the one that applies to your reservation.

Arrive without a reservation

Drive-up rates

Drive-up rates apply when you arrive without a reservation and take a ticket at the gate. They are the flexible, unreserved price, tied to the time you enter and leave.

Reserve before you travel

Pre-booked rates

Pre-booked rates apply when you've reserved in advance for a defined entry and exit period. You agree the price before you travel, so it does not depend on when you happen to drive in.

Sydney Airport publishes drive-up and overstay rate information separately from pre-booked prices. That separation matters, because the two numbers are calculated differently and comparing them like-for-like is where travellers get confused. If you want to know why a pre-booked rate looks different from the board at the entrance, this is the reason.

Bands, not smooth hourly pricing

A stay that runs past a band boundary lands in the next one.

Drive-up pricing is structured around 24-hour parking windows, and rates are tied to entry and exit time bands. The price steps up as your stay moves through each band rather than charging a smooth per-hour figure. That is why drive-up parking at airports often feels expensive — you are paying the flexible, unreserved rate, and you are paying it in blocks.

Overstay charges

The last hour of your booking is not free

Overstay is charged when you exit later than the period your rate covers. Because the pricing runs in time bands, an overstay is usually billed against the next band rather than as a small hourly add-on. That is the part travellers tend to underestimate — a short delay can cost more than the minutes suggest.

The practical defence is simple: know your booked exit time and build in a buffer for delayed flights and baggage queues. If you're collecting a car after a long flight, don't assume the last hour is free. It isn't, unless your booking says so.

Exit inside your band

Your pre-booked rate applies for the period you agreed. Nothing extra is triggered while you stay inside it.

Exit in the next band

The overstay is billed at the next band rate, not as a per-hour top-up. Adding an hour to your booking is the cheaper way to cover a delay.

Flight running late

Tell us as soon as you know. An adjustment may be possible depending on your booking, but the earlier you call, the more options there are.

What pre-booking locks in

A known cost before you drive in

When you pre-book, you agree a rate for a defined period before you travel. Your confirmation holds the price you were quoted for those dates, instead of a gate rate that depends on when you arrive and leave.

Times are part of the price

Your booking is tied to the times you supplied. Move entry or exit significantly and the rate may need to be recalculated for the new period.

Confirmed, not remembered

The rate on your confirmation is what applies. Give accurate times up front and there is no ambiguity at the barrier.

Estimating your own cost

Four details drive the number

Trip length drives the choice between terminal parking and a long-stay lot, and the product drives the rate. Have these ready and a quote takes minutes rather than a back-and-forth.

When you arrive

Entry date and time

Give the time you expect to pass the barrier, not the time you leave home. Metres and traffic near the terminals differ from the map.

When you collect

Exit date and time

Round your exit time up rather than down. If your flight lands at 6am and you've allowed an hour for bags, book the exit for later than you think you need.

What you park with

The product you want

Terminal parking, covered long stay, valet or a shuttle-served lot are priced differently. The product you choose is the largest single input.

Where you fly

Your terminal

Domestic and international terminals sit at different distances from the long-stay lots. Your terminal decides which one makes sense.

Padding an hour into your exit time is cheaper than paying an overstay band. Check the parking options for what each product covers, or read the terminal guides before you decide where to leave the car.

Paying for a booking

Bookings through this site are settled by invoice or bank transfer, or in person where the arrangement allows. We don't process card payments online through this website, so don't enter card details anywhere on these pages.

If you're unsure which method applies to your reservation, ask before you pay. We'll confirm the method and the reference to use so your payment is matched to the right booking rather than to a name or a date on a bank feed.

Before you pay

  • Confirm the payment method for your reservation with the team.
  • Use the payment reference we give you so the payment is matched to your booking.
  • Keep the invoice or transfer receipt with your booking confirmation.

Changing or cancelling a booking

If your travel dates move, tell us as early as you can. Changes are easier to accommodate before the booking period starts than during it, and a rate agreed for one period may need to be recalculated for another.

Cancellations follow the same principle. The closer you are to your entry time, the less room there is to adjust. Contact us with your booking details and we'll tell you where you stand.

What we need from you

At a minimum, we need your name, contact email, vehicle registration, entry and exit times, and your terminal. Vehicle registration in particular is worth double-checking, because it's what identifies your car at the lot.

If your plans include an accessible bay, a late-night return or a vehicle larger than a standard car, say so when you book. Those details change what we can arrange for you, and they are much easier to handle before your entry date than on the day.

Checklist to have ready

  • Name and a contact email you actually read while travelling.
  • Vehicle registration, exactly as it appears on the plate.
  • Entry and exit times for the booking period.
  • The terminal you're flying from, and your flight timings if you have them.
  • Any access, size or timing requirement that changes what we can arrange.

Rates change, so confirm before you travel

Published rates are updated by the operator from time to time, and time bands can be adjusted. That's normal for airport parking, but it means an old screenshot of a price isn't a booking.

Your confirmation is what applies to your reservation. If a rate looks different from what you expected closer to your travel date, contact us and we'll check it against your booking rather than against a remembered figure.

Ask about a rate

Rates move

Operators publish rate updates through the year, and time bands are reviewed with them. A rate you compared last season is history, not a quote.

Bookings hold

Your confirmation carries the period and the price you agreed. That is the number to check against — not a photo of a price board.

Plans shift

If your dates move, tell us early. A rate agreed for one period may need recalculating for another, and that is easier well before you travel.

Ask first

Questions we get about rates

Why is pre-booked parking usually cheaper than driving up?

Pre-booking agrees a rate for a defined period before you travel. Drive-up pricing is the flexible, unreserved rate, charged in time bands built around 24-hour windows. When you know your dates, the pre-booked rate removes the uncertainty of a gate price.

How is an overstay charged?

Overstays are billed against the next time band rather than as a small hourly addition, because the pricing structure runs in bands. Build a buffer into your booked exit time, especially if you're returning on a delayed flight.

Can I pay by card on this website?

No. Bookings through this site are settled by invoice or bank transfer, or in person where that's the arrangement. Don't enter card details on this website. Ask us to confirm the payment method for your reservation.

What happens if my flight is delayed and I return late?

Contact us as soon as you know your return is running late. Depending on your booking, an adjustment may be possible, though an overstay band can still apply. The earlier you tell us, the more options there are.

Do I need to give my vehicle registration?

Yes. Registration, contact details, entry and exit times and your terminal are the basics we need to set up a booking. Registration is how your car is identified at the lot.

Ready to reserve, or still checking the numbers?

Send us your entry and exit times, the product you want and your terminal. We will confirm the rate that applies to your dates before anything is reserved, then send the booking details for you to check.
